How the filing runs

Check which route applies

Directors filing for the first time, or updating any detail, file the full DIR-3 KYC form. Those with no changes can usually complete web based KYC.

Verify contact details

Mobile and email are verified by OTP. Both must belong personally to the director, not to the company or an employee.

Certify and file

The form is digitally signed by the director and certified by a practising professional before filing.

Confirm and diarise

Filing confirmation is retained and next year is diarised, since the obligation repeats annually.

A deactivated DIN stops more than one company

This is a small filing with a disproportionate effect. When a DIN is deactivated for non filing, that person cannot sign or file anything with the Registrar for any company in which they are a director. A director sitting on three boards can stall filings across all three by missing one annual form, and reactivation requires filing the pending KYC together with a reactivation fee. It is the cheapest compliance on this list and the one most often forgotten.

Common questions

Every individual holding a Director Identification Number, including directors of dormant companies and people who hold a DIN but are not currently on any board.

It falls annually, and the KYC is required for every DIN allotted on or before the end of the preceding financial year.

The full form is used for first time filing or where any detail has changed. Web KYC is a simpler confirmation available where nothing has changed since the last filing.

You cannot sign filings for any company until it is reactivated, which requires filing the pending KYC along with the prescribed reactivation fee.

No. The mobile number and email must be personal to the director and are verified by OTP.
