How the filing runs

Classify correctly

Micro, small or medium is determined by investment in plant and machinery together with annual turnover. Misclassification affects which benefits you can claim.

File on the portal

Filing is Aadhaar authenticated and pulls investment and turnover data directly from linked PAN and GST records.

Certificate issued

The Udyam Registration Number and certificate are generated, usually the same day or the next.

Keep it current

Details must be updated annually. A registration left un-updated can be suspended.

The delayed payment protection is the benefit worth having

Under the MSMED Act, a buyer must pay a registered micro or small enterprise within 45 days, and beyond that compound interest runs at three times the RBI bank rate. Buyers must also disclose overdue MSME payments in their annual accounts, which creates real pressure to settle. For most small businesses, this single protection is worth more than the subsidy schemes, and it is only available if you are registered before the transaction.
